Native Dancer, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada 06

Description : Wanuskewin Heritage Park officially opened in June 1992. Since then, hundreds of thousands of visitors have experienced what the Park has to offer: a window of understanding of First Nations heritage and culture, and the common roots all North Americans share. Wanuskewin was, and is, a place to seek peace of mind, a place of living in harmony. The lessons it has to offer are ageless.
One way First Nations people have expressed their culture and marked important events is through song and dance.

This is certainly true of Pow Wow dancing, which has been part of Plains culture for thousands of years. Everything from the colorful regalia of the dancers to the variety of dance styles carries historical meaning that has been passed down through the generations.
