Polar Bear Cub, Toronto Zoo, Ontario, Canada 01

Polar Bear Cub, Toronto Zoo, Ontario, Canada 01

Description : (April 2003) One day he could weigh as much as a car. But the tiny polar bear cub rescued by a Toronto zoo after native hunters killed his mother will have to lap up a lot baby bear formula and a special meat diet first.
The snow white cub made headlines in Canada after he spent the night in jail in the tiny town of Fort Severn on Hudson,s Bay, the only safe place to keep him in the Cree community before he was put on plane heading south and to a lifetime of captivity. The alternative was almost certain death. He was only a few months old, and dependent on his mother for milk.

The Toronto Zoo is a zoo located in the northeastern part of Toronto, Ontario. It opened in 1974 as the Metropolitan Toronto Zoo and is owned by the City of Toronto; the word Metropolitan was dropped from its name when the cities of the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto were merged to form the present-day City of Toronto. The zoo is located near the Rouge Valley Park and Rouge River.

Encompassing 3 kmē (710 acres), the Toronto Zoo is one of the largest in the world. It is divided into four zoogeographic regions with numerous indoor pavilions and outdoor exhibits. The zoo is home to over 5,200 animals representing over 450 distinct species. The zoo,s Splash Island waterpark opened in 2001.
