Description : War Memorial sculpted by Walter Seymour Allward

Canadian War Memorial at Vimy, FranceWalter Seymour Allward (November 18, 1876 - April 24, 1955) was a Canadian sculptor.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Allward first worked as a draughtsman for an architectural firm then modelled terra cotta decorative panels for the Don Valley Brick Company. He is probably most famous for designing the Vimy Memorial in France that commemorates the Battle of Vimy Ridge during World War I. The massive project was started in 1921 and completed in 1936.

Allward is also the creator of the truth and justice statues outside of the Supreme Court of Canada. This was meant as a memorial to King Edward VII. He also designed numerous municipal cenotaphs around the country, including this one in Stratford, Ontario.
