Dempster Highway, Fall Colours, Ogilivie Mountains, Richardson Mountains, Yukon, Canada 23

Description : There are few sights that compare with autumn colours on the tundra. Oranges, reds and yellows spill upon the Ogilvie and Richardson Mountains to create a landscape masterpiece only nature can paint. Evenings free of urban smog and lights offer incomparible views of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

The Dempster Highway—Canada’s first all-weather road to cross the Arctic Circle—was officially opened on Aug. 18th, 1979, at Flat Creek, Yukon. It was touted as a two-lane, gravel-surfaced, all-weather highway that ran 671 kilometres (417 miles) from the Klondike Highway near Dawson City to Fort McPherson and Arctic Red River in the Northwest Territories.
The Dempster passes through a wide variety of landscapes, from tundra plains to rugged volcanic mountains.
