Description : The Squamish Nation had settlements throughout the Squamish and Cheakamus valleys and along Howe Sound. Settlements were often seasonal as native fishermen and hunters followed the food sources. The first contact between the Squamish Nation and European explorers was in 1792 when Captain Vancouver sailed up Howe Sound and traded with the local Sko-mish people.
