Description : The alternate name of Skookumchuck Hot Springs in Sta-imcets is Skatin, which is a Stat-imcets rendering of Skookumchuck, meaning rapids or strong water, and is preferred by some to the original Chinook Jargon-based name. The name is also present in the names of the surrounding Indian reserves, Skookumchuck IR 5, IR 5A and IR 5B. The springs themselves, named Tsek in the Stat imcets language (pronounced chick) were on private property owned by the Tretheway family until acquired by the Government of Canada to be held in trust for the In-SHUCK-ch until an eventual treaty
