Description : Construction spanned two-and-a-half years, but for Intrawest senior vice-president Hugh Smythe, completion of the gondola represents the end of an 11-year journey that started on a visit to the Zermatt ski area in Switzerland as he looked up the tram line connecting the village to the mountain.

Smythe wanted to finally bridge the gap between Whistler and Blackcomb, and started his campaign.
