Sambaa deh Falls, Northwest Territories, Canada 29

Sambaa deh Falls, Northwest Territories, Canada 29

Description : The Trout River (Sambaa Deh in the Slavey language) was traditionally an important transportation route for the aboriginal populations of the area (before and during the fur trade). The falls forced travelers to portage around this dangerous stretch of water. Coral Falls is so named due to numerous coral fossils that are washed down the river each year.

There is something magical about the sight and sound of falling water. And, consider a visit in late fall, when the warm river water meets the crisp air with clouds of vapour; in winter, when the waterfalls are frozen; and in spring, when pans of break-up ice jostle together in the river.
