Description : One of the largest entire Western Newfoundland Forest ecoregion ecoregions on the island ranges from very hilly to mountainous, the Serpentine of Newfoundland, the Range subregion is at the mountainous end of the Western Newfoundland spectrum.
A thousand years ago, Norsemen exploring west from Greenland built the oldest known European dwellings in the Americas, just a few daysí sail north of Gros Morne National Park. The remains of their camp, discovered in 1960 by Helge and Anne Stine Ingstad are now a part of the LíAnse aux Meadows National Historic Site.
