Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland, Canada 21

Description : This is a family of Woodland Caribou trotting towards the sunset with Western Brook Pond in the background.

Gros Morne has been called theGalapagos of Geology. Within this 700 square mile park there are classic examples of monumental earth-building and modifying forces. Here you can learn about an ancient ocean and the collision of continents, you can visit arctic-alpine barrens populated by woodland caribou and arctic hares, or you can explore the coast,s 4,500 year history.

Originally the valley where Western Brook Pond lies was a fjord that was cut off from the sea during the last ice age. The deep wide valley surrounding Western Brook Pond has been carved out by glaciers during that ice age.
